Samaritan Ministries members used by God during 'hardest year of my life'

Courtney Frank

To say this past year has been challenging would be an understatement, but Samaritan Ministries members have been there to help us through the financial and spiritual part. Thanks to Samaritan, we were able to take a more natural medical approach to treating me and our baby, Valor, for several conditions after his birth.

On May 8, 2019, the Lord answered my heart’s deepest desire to have an unmedicated VBAC (little did we know, with an almost 10-pound baby!). An emotional and exhaustive labor, delivery and recovery for me was followed by our son, Valor, developing a severe case of eczema and colic. He would cry every day for a minimum of three hours, scream in pain when he nursed, and never sleep more than 45 minutes at a time. We were beyond exhausted (while also managing an almost 2-year-old toddler). I can’t even count the number of times that we cried out to God to heal Valor’s pain, give us direction, and keep us sane.

Additionally, I started to develop worsening rosacea and stomach pains. My pediatrician quickly diagnosed Valor with acid reflux, prescribed him medication, and handed me eczema lotion on the way out the door. She said this was very “normal” and that I shouldn’t have anything to worry about. I followed her advice, but deep down I knew something was wrong.

Through a few divine encounters, God led us to a functional medicine doctor in Houston (which are hard to come by in one of the biggest “western medicine” capitals of the nation). We were able to do extensive testing to find a myriad of gut issues in my body that I had passed along to Valor via breastfeeding (i.e., food allergies, leaky gut, H pylori overgrowth, copper and iron deficiencies, and more). We quickly implemented the doctor’s supplement plan and healing protocols that quickly changed our bodies.

We would never have been able to afford this doctor if it weren’t for Samaritan Ministries! And if we still had our health insurance, the practice would’ve been out of network. On top of everything, when Valor was 5 months old and we finally hit a turning point in our health, my dad passed away suddenly at 65 years old. The blessing of Samaritan Ministries’ financial help during this time took SO much emotional, physical and mental stress off of our marriage. When I was sorting out our medical bills, I spoke with Laura from Samaritan Ministries and, at the end of our conversation, she asked if I needed prayer for anything and I teared up. What insurance company does that??

In the midst of a hard health journey and grieving the loss of my dad, you all go above and beyond in your intentionality. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, from the bottom of our hearts, for being the hands and feet of Christ and for being our lifeline in the hardest year of my life.
