The Doorpost: Being treated like Jesus was treated

“If the world hates you, know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
“Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My Word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of My Name, because they do not know Him Who sent Me.”
Jesus said the words above to His disciples on the last night they were together before He was crucified. He also said other things as well that night that are recorded in chapters 13-17 of the Gospel of John. All the things He said were to keep the disciples from falling away. He warned them that the time would come when people would kill them and think that by doing that they were serving God (John 16:1-4).
If we are obedient servants of Jesus Christ, we can expect to be treated the way He was treated—loved by those who love Him and hated by those who hate Him. When we face upheaval in the world, it doesn’t necessarily mean we are doing anything wrong. We need to remember that He told us this was coming and to continue in fellowship with Him.
