Kelly & Kendall

Building A Faith Muscle

Kelly and Kendall both have a passion for television and film production; that’s how they met. Throughout their early years of marriage, they saw how God provided, even when the math didn’t make sense. Kendall said, “we have a strong faith that the Lord will provide because we’ve seen Him do it over and over again.” Their faith muscle was growing, which ultimately helped them leave insurance and move to health care sharing.

After the birth of their first child, they knew they needed to find another way to pay their medical bills. Insurance wasn’t working for them. That’s when Kendall heard about health care sharing from some friends at church. She was skeptical (how is it possible that someone in a different city is going to care about my medical needs?), but curious enough to check it out for herself. That’s when she found Samaritan Ministries and their biblical way of sharing each other’s burdens.

Kelly was nervous, but agreed to the change.

“And I think now with this long at Samaritan Ministries, it's also built our faith muscle, like okay Lord, you will provide for us in this way too."

Six months later, Kelly had surgery and it was time to see if this whole idea of health care sharing worked. It did. Money from fellow Samaritan members started coming in; some even sent cards. One member from Wisconsin wrote, “we’re praying for you out here on our farm,” and that’s when Kelly knew they were part of a ministry family that is kind, caring, and loving.

Since this was their first medical need, Kendall called Samaritan Ministries for some guidance. She said the advocate she spoke to was “just so reassuring” and prayed with her. Since then, every time she calls, she’s encouraged. She says, “you feel cared for, and you feel like you're part of like a family, like a big community.”

And community is an important part of their life. It’s their “heartbeat.” So much so that their neighbors and friends have an open invitation to gather around their table to enjoy a time of fellowship, whatever’s on the grill, and prayer. Kelly says that being able to pray for someone in need is something they believe strongly in, saying, “God in scriptures told us, He's like, you're going to live in community and you're going to carry each other's burdens and you're going to do life together.”

They’re glad that Samaritan Ministries is part of their community. Kelly says that being Samaritan members has given them the opportunity to pray for others and support them financially when they have a medical need and he delights in the blessing to be a part of it.

For Kendall, it’s about continuing to build that faith muscle. “If we do it God's way, then we can trust that we'll be provided for through His people, but ultimately through Him. That's really what it comes down to.”
